In August, the traffic circle at the Emergency Department entrance will be taken out of service until November for contractors to complete grading and site work for the new addition for the Intensive Care Unit and the Kaplan Center for Surgical Services.
In preparation, contractors will construct a temporary ramp with a turn-a-round adjacent to the ambulance bay that can be used by private vehicles as a drop off zone for patients. A temporary pedestrian walkway will also be constructed across from the ambulance bay for patients, employees and visitors to access the Emergency Department entrance.
Contractors will also construct a temporary exit for ambulances to use. During this time, ambulances will pull into the ambulance bay as usual. However, they will then back out of the bay and drive down the temporary exit.
The new traffic patterns will take effect as soon as contractors complete the temporary ramps, walk-ways and drop-off zone, which is expected to be mid-August, according to Plant Operations Director Allen Hurd.
