Rome Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
“We are proud to be recognized by the American College of Radiology for our expertise in CT imaging,” said Medical Imaging Director Sharon Carson. “The ACR accreditation reflects the quality of our radiologists and technologists who work together to provide world-class care to our patients.”
ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging. It represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. During the accreditation process, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.
Accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR practice parameters and technical standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in these fields.
The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
CT scans provide detailed images of internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels. It is a common diagnostic tool for many medical conditions, such as stroke, cancer, internal injuries or appendicitis.
As part of its commitment to safety, Rome Health Hospital was the first hospital in the region to invest in specialized software to reduce radiation dosage by up to 40% while still giving doctors the highest quality CT images to make a confident diagnosis.
