One year later on the Kaplan Center for Surgical Services & ICU

One year ago, Rome Health held a groundbreaking ceremony in late November for the new Kaplan Center for Surgical Services and Intensive Care Unit. A whole 365 days later, the progress that has been made has been extraordinary.

Thanks to a very mild winter at the start of 2024, construction on the project moved at a very steady pace. It helped to keep the ground soft enough to excavate and pour the concrete foundation then start placing the steel beams.

In the spring, the "shell" of Surgical Services & ICU started to take shape and at the same time the tearing down of the North James Street entrance and waiting room started. The new waiting room and front entrance will be larger and more convenient for patients and for their families.

During the fall, the exterior walls of the Surgical Center and ICU started to go up and the old entrance to the Emergency Department was closed off due to the construction of the outside walls. Throughout the remainder of the fall if you were to drive by Rome Health on North James Street, you would have seen the progress being made on the outside on a daily basis. On the inside, a good deal of progress was being made as well.

The Intensive Care Unit has made significant progress with wiring, walls, and some paint as well. While the Surgical Center was following right in step with pipes, power, wiring, and insulation being placed.

Now with winter coming very soon, the exterior of the Kaplan Surgical center is sealed up and more piping, power, wiring and drywall are continuing to be set up. The Intensive Care Unit has heat and fans running to help with the drying of the joint compound and paint.

Rome Health is very happy with all the progress that has been made so far in just one year and we look forward to the opening of the Kaplan Center for Surgical Services, the Intensive Care Unit, and the new entrance and waiting room by North James Street to all be open in the Summer of 2026.
