Daniel S. Kemp, PT, DPT, MHA, CLT, has been named assistant administrator of Rome Health's top ranked nursing home on the third floor. The 80-bed Residential Health Care Facility (RHCF) provides short-term rehabilitation, long-term care and respite care.
Kemp graduated from Utica College with a bachelor of science degree in health studies and earned his doctorate of physical therapy from Utica College. He advanced his education with a master’s of healthcare administration from Utica University.
For the last six years, Kemp has been employed as a physical therapist at Rome Health, where he has evaluated and treated patients in the acute, sub-acute and senior behavioral health settings. He is looking forward to becoming a member of the RHCF’s leadership team to provide safe, efficient and outcome driven care to its residents and families.
“As a child, visiting my grandmother in a nursing home, I learned the importance of taking care of someone when they weren’t able to care for themselves anymore. I always wanted to better the lives of people which was the main reason for becoming a physical therapist,” Kemp said. “Working as a physical therapist, you have the privilege of having a direct influence on a patient’s quality of life. I was able to greatly appreciate the impact this had on not only the patient, but also their families.”
“I decided to pursue my licensure as a nursing home administrator to be able to have that same impact on a larger scale,” Kemp said. “By doing so, I can work with other healthcare professionals to ensure that our community has access to quality healthcare with compassion for years to come.”
“As a physical therapist, I feel as though I have a unique perspective when it comes to the rehab process and providing patient care in general. Working in the acute care section within Rome Health, I have been able to develop a stronger clinical background,” Kemp said. “I have been lucky to work with an amazing interdisciplinary team to be able to develop a strong collaborative approach that will be beneficial in providing care to our residents.”
RHCF Administrator Charlie Lewis will serve as Kemp’s mentor as he prepares to sit for his nursing home administrator licensing examination. Lewis has been a licensed nursing home administrator for more than 20 years and plans on retiring later this year.
“I am extremely humbled to be offered the opportunity to be the assistant administrator with Rome Health RHCF. I am truly fortunate to be joining a team of healthcare professionals that provide exceptional care to our residents,” Kemp said. “Charlie Lewis and his team continue to set the standard of care for our community. I am excited to begin working with my colleagues to ensure that our residents have access to the best care out there. Here.”
“Rome Health has been a large part of my professional career. I have been very fortunate to have been able to collaborate with many amazing healthcare professionals to provide great care for our patients and residents,” Kemp said. “The Rome Health RHCF has always had a great reputation for being the best. The team members on RHCF have a great deal of experience and knowledge that is second to none. I chose to complete my internship with Rome Health to learn from the best and to join an exceptional team.”
Rome Health has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Nursing Home for short-term rehabilitation for five years in a row. It is one of only 13% of skilled nursing facilities in the nation to earn the designation for 2023-2024. The RHCF has also been ranked as a top performing nursing home by the New York State Nursing Home Quality Initiative.
